I installed my HID (high intensity discharge) lights almost a week ago, but it hasn't been dark while I wasn't busy yet. So I haven't taken any pictures. I also tried to give my tail lights a smoked look with spay paint, it didn't work and I had to clean it all off. I'll try again pretty soon. Anyways, until later....

I heard about this list at school. Its the best and worst cars based on the past Consumer Reports test drives and varius other tests. they are list alphebeticaly and divided into two lists. The lists are compiled from overall reliability information covering 1998-2005 models with better than average or much worse than average reliability. Only models that were in production for more than three years were included. Problems with the engine, engine cooling, transmission, and drive trains were weighted more heavily than other problems. The first list is the good list (and my car is on it)

I just bought an alarm system for my car, its going in on Monday.

I'm still waiting for my HID conversion, should be here this week.

One of my foglights is out, bought a new one and haven't had time to put it in yet.

Work is pretty crazy busy, school isn't as great as it once was.

I hit a concrete wall at 15 mph in the ice.

I play on a hockey team in a league on Monday night on rollerblades.

Almost went snowboarding today, but worked instead.

And I really want a Alpine Type R 10" sub, but don't have enough money because I just bought the alarm system.

And I can't keep the cats from walking on my car and I'm getting really irritated about that.

So Melissa will quit asking.

Why I would lower my car 3"? It was great back in September, but in this weather? I plowed snow all the way out my driveway today. I also managed to scrape up what the snowplows left behind. Also, after going over the Cook RD Railroad tracks at like 3mph, I managed to still bottom out AND pick up an ice ball that remained logged under my car for like a 1/2 mile. Bumping and scraping and making all kinds of horrible noises. Not to mention all the potholes every where make for a very violent ride. Sometimes I wonder why, when its dry out, it all worth it. But right now its kind of a pain.

I got to work today after college and found a Honda S2K in the stall next to mine and proceeded to get very exited. I immediately looked at the windshield to make sure it was a safety (a used car that was traded in) and it was. My heart beat fast. I had passed the guy in charge of it on my way into work. He was out to buy lunch. So I waited around for him to come back so I could ask him if I could drive it. 1/2 an hour later he came back and I asked him and he said yes, just check the oil first. So away I went. I took it down the freeway loop. (Our test track so to speak) This is my "professional" opinion of this grand car:

First off, there's no power till you rev it to at least 6000 and get into Vtec. Once you get there though, hold on. It pulled hard from there on out. I entered the freeway in 3rd at about 65 mph and she was still pulling hard and the Exhaust note was incredibly pleasant, but not really loud enough to be noticed. I had to back off there to avoid getting a ticket. As a huge fan of these cars, the only thing that disappointed me was that it wasn't quite as powerful as I had anticipated. Every thing else was great though, push button start, tight 6spd gear box great handling, looks, ect. I am a happier man today after driving that car.

(I will accept this car as a Christmas present anytime )

I just came back after spending all day in Seattle with fellow college goers. We spent about half the day riding the bus there and back, and the other half we spent pouring over all the new 07 models of every thing from ferraris and lotuses to kias and suzukis. A lot of the higher end cars were sort of off limits, but almost every other car wasn't. We could pop the hood, sit inside, feel the clutch and gear boxes, it was great. And the college paid for every thing except food. I took some pictures of some of the higher end cars and may post them later. Probably the best part was that we knew more than the sales men about some of the cars. It was great backing them into a corner.

The new Civic Type R continues to be powered by the naturally-aspirated, high-revving 2.0-liter DOHC i-VTEC engine but the unit has been significantly reworked to improve responsiveness using a new balancer shaft and drive-by-wire throttle control. VTEC variable valve timing and VTC variable inlet camshaft technology continue to underpin the engine structure.
Further development of the Type R unit means more useable torque, as the switch to high-lift, long duration valve timing (the cam change) now takes place at a lower 5,200 rpm, and continues all the way to 8,000 rpm. So that screaming, high rpm VTEC range is broader and more accessible. To mark the entry to this ‘power band’ a new i-VTEC indicator just to the right of the digital speedometer is illuminated once the revs rise above 5,200 rpm.
Maximum power is now 204 bhp, reached at 8,000 rpm and the car is more responsive generally, while improved aerodynamics ensure the new car cuts through the air more cleanly. Slightly lower gearing compensates for a small increase in kerb weight.
Building on the Civic Type S suspension, which is fine-tuned for sharper chassis dynamics, the Type R takes those modifications to the next level. Like the Type S, its rear track is almost an inch wider than that of the 5-door model, but otherwise damper, bush and spring characteristics are all unique to Type R.
While the styling of previous Civic Type Rs has almost been an after-thought, the latest car enhances the already-bold appearance of the Civic to build an incredibly assertive look. Seven-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels are fitted as standard and – helped by the car’s low ride height – these tuck neatly under the body colored arches.
The deep front spoiler incorporates a larger air intake to channel air to the induction system, as well as triangular foglamps. There’s no missing the distinct body-colored tailgate rear spoiler, which follows the kick-up line from the rear quarter windows, and provides added down-force. At the front, a black honeycomb mesh grille replaces the glass panel of other Civics, sporting – of course – the infamous red ‘H’ badge.
Inside, it’s all about the driving experience. Front seats are racing-style buckets with large black Alcantara bolsters and red stitching, red fabric seat cushions and backs. The seat bench in the back repeats the same color combination.

I installed my Springs yesterday and my car handles tons better. Its a lot stiffer and I bottomed out when I left school yesterday. I would recomend these to any Honda owner out there.

The first man said, "Best mule I ever laid eyes on was a strawberry roan, name of Red. Belonged to a neighbor. When it came to pulling, wasn't a team nowhere that could outpull Red.
Remember a time I was passing the neighbors house and he was out plowing with Red. I listened ta him call out, Giddap Doc. Come on Jenny. Hup there, Blacky. Good job, Red....
When he completed the round I asked him what he was doing, calling out like that, and he says, Well I don't want red to think he was doing all that work by himself.
Another man chuckled. Reminds me of Clyde. Back in those days had me a parcel of troublesome stumps. I hitched Clyde to them and tried to pull them free but with little success. The only thing I could do was blow them up with dynamite. But that took a lot of work because I had to dig down, place the charge , blow it and repeat the process several times before the roots would break loose.
I worked one morning and came in at noon, leaving the dynamite in the wagon. While I was eating Clyde ambled over to the wagon and stuck his nose in the dynamite and ate it. To make a long story short, When I came out of the house I saw Clyde over where he didn't belong and I hollered. This scared him. He jumped came down on a rock his shoes sparked, which ignited the dynamite in his breath. The resulting explosion blew the wagon the smithereens, shoved the house off its foundation 10 feet and singed my beard. Clyde was sick to his stomach for dang there a week.

First off we got to the airport at 11:30pm, and spent the night doing whatever. Some slept, others ran up and down escalator and breathed helium. We checked in at 4:ooam, passed through security and went to our gate. At that point I finally slept until about 6:20am. We then boarded our plane only to find out it had equipment problems and that it would take them hours to fix it. We then all got off the plane. I slept for about another 1/2 hour when Gloria woke me up and told me they had called my name. I went up the counter to find out they had given me another flight home through American airlines. I got this flight because I wasn't part of the group. Shortly after that every one else left and I hung around the airport for another few hours waiting for my flight. I didn't wan't to sleep because I might not have woken up to board my plane. I made it to Chicago without to much difficulty and walked across the entire airport in about 15 mins(I walked very fast), And got to my gate about 10 minutes before they started to board. After that I made it to Seattle and called my parents only to find out that they hadn't even left my house yet. Oh well, so I went to collect my baggage and it never showed up. So after going back and forth between the Delta and American airlines baggage places they finally let me file a lost luggage claim. My luggage ended up coming in on my sisters flight, which was good because I had like 3/4 of all my clothes packed away in there. Anyways 1/2 an hour later my parents came to pick me up and we had some food because I had only had a breakfast roll all day. And as soon as I got home I went for a drive and then went to bed. Which felt good because I had went two days on about 4 hours of sleep.

After a weird two days where I got like 4 hours of sleep for two days, flown all by myself for the first time in my life. Temporarily lost my luggage and almost my mind. I also spent the night at the airport for the first time in my life. Ran up and down the escalator the wrong way more times than I can count. And when I finally got home, I drove my car down chuckanut just because i hadn't drove anything for like 12 days. Many thanks to those industrious people who organized the conference. It was a lot of fun right up until the last day when we all had to say goodbye. Goodbye just doesn't seem cover all the emotions surrounding the moment. It'll be great to see you all (the far away ones anyways) in a year. For those living close by, See you soon.

I watched this movie last night because the pirates of the Caribbean was sold out until midnight. This is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. The suspense was enough to keep you watching and guessing, but not enough to really scare you. It had a good plot and a decent ending. Its makes me want to see another good movie like that. I highly recommend this movie to all those out there who like a moderate amount of suspense.

You all will be happy to know that the sprint we all know and love, is not as dead as I thought. After investigating, I discovered a loose spark plug wire. This is what was causing it to run on 2 cylinders. So, now it is running as good as before, and I won't have to any major engine modifications. Yet.

Autocross

Autocrossing typically takes place in parking lots or Air Port strips. The course is marked out by setting up cones and there are penalty's for knocking them over or disturbing them. The penalty varies place to place. There are many different classes of cars to keep it fair. These categories range from stock cars,(no modifications) to actual race cars that aren't even street legal. You race one by one, so that there is no damage from bumping into other cars. You race against the clock and the winner is determined by who ever did the course the fastest. I plan to one day do this.

I guess an engine can only take so much. Today, I decide to take my sprint out and have some fun. And I had fun for like 1/2 an hour, ripping up and down the field with my brothers. Until, the exhaust starts making a loud popping noise after downshifting into 1st gear from 3rd. The car then had no power and wouldn't idle and was putting more than the usual amount of black and blue smoke.
I limped it back to the shop and parked it back in its usual place. I got my brother to keep his foot on the gas to keep it running, and I went out and did a power balance. The power balance told me that one of my cylinders wasn't doing a thing, thus reducing the already small performance numbers by a third.
It now runs but has no power. I guess I will be doing a engine swap sooner than I had anticipated. More to follow.

I was calmly sitting at college, learning about charging systems, when a second year student barges into the classroom saying that a lady is giving away free Red Bulls out front. So we all rush out to greet this lady and her driver (of a modified Mini Cooper) and get some free Red Bulls out of her.
Thus I drank my first Red Bull. And I will have to say it wasn't to bad. Contrary to what Mark said in a post of his a while back, I might even drink another one if the opportunity arises.

This new machine from Honda features a 1.5 liter Vtec engine that is supposed to get incredible fuel economy because of its throttle by wire system system. For those of you who don't know what a throttle be wire system is, I will explain. With a normal older car, the gas pedal is directly linked by a cable to the throttle body. On a throttle by wire car, there is no physical connection. When you press the gas peddle you send a signal to the computer and the computer then decides how much gas to actually give the car. Engineers however, put a feeling of resistance into the pedal so that it feels just like a normal pedal. This is how some cars do their traction control. All that aside, the advertised "great fuel economy" is 33 city and 38 highway. At one time those might have been great, but now that just doesn't quite do it compared to other car out there. Especially hybrids.

The sport version will have a 5spd automatic with paddle shifters to override the transmission should you feel the need to do so. The 1.5 liter single over head cam 16 valve Vtec engine is capable producing a 109 HP @ 5800 rpms, and 105 Ft lbs. Of torque @ 4800 rpms. The torque level on this car is set lower than on your normal Honda to ensure better acceleration without having to rev it so high. The redline is also a little low, it cuts you off at 6500, not very high compared to other honda's, witch have a reputation for revving high. The civic Si for example, has set its redline at 8000.

This vehicle is being presented because of the void created by the growth of the Civic and Accord. Because these cars have grown so large Honda had no small cars to offer anymore. And that is why the Honda Fit is here.

Sprint update

I have finally got the clutch swapped over and she runs like a dream. It obviously took me a long time to accomplish this. Reason being, this is my first clutch job, I'm doing it at home without many of the right tools. And I lifted the car in the air with a forklift, if that says anything. My Dad also just bought a quad and has been tearing the driveway up with it. After some negotiation I managed to convince him hat drifting won't mess it up any more than the quad does. So now I get to drift around the shop. Soon my skills will surpass the skills of any body I know.

On another note, I am still in the process of removing the vital insides out of the other metro. The caved in windshield is giving me some grief, but I will prevail in the end.

Carbon Fiber

Car manufacturer's are ever increasingly using carbon fiber materials in both manufacturing and in creating many after market parts such as wheels, hoods, bumpers, and even brake pads. Corvette is using it now for their front fenders, front wheel houses, and floor of their new Z06. The new Maybach 57S will offer a carbon fiber interior trim option.(For looks mostly) The Porsche GT, to be discontinued this year, has offered a frame largely made up of carbon fiber for a while now. The Ford Gt will offer seat frames and a rear deck panel of carbon fiber.

What is carbon fiber? Its basically many fine strands of pure carbon fiber that is very strong and reasonably flexible.

So why use these materials? GM's Corvetts and Saturns (until recently) have long used fiberglass to make their cars light, but this material is not strong. Hence Corvetts literally disintegrate upon any substantial impact. Carbon fiber is very strong, but much more expensive. That's why it is pretty much only used on high end cars and aftermaket performance stuff. The price is the biggest reason it isn't used very widely today. But that is changing, and it is seen in the use of carbon fiber in some newer cars. With brake pads, you will pay up to 80 dollars or more for all 4 wheels(depending on your car). The big advantage to the brake pads is that they can withstand an amazing amount of heat, they last for a long time, and give off very little brake dust.

So for the average person out there, they wouldn't care less about paying extra money for a carbon fiber hood, or brake pads, or wheels. But for those of us into performance, the technology of carbon fiber is a very interesting development.

Removing a fuel tank.....

This is definitely a task to be done carefully. 1st you should make sure that you got all the gas out. (mistake number one) And that you have more help than your not very strong little brother. (mistake number two) And it would probably be wise to use more than a forklift to lift it into the air.

If you haven't figured it out, I removed a fuel tank today out of my other more recent project car that is supporting the other project car. I spilled like $9 of gas on the shop floor and on the ground outside. But it is out, as well as the engine. The clutch on the sprint burnt up with an amazing amount of smoke. I never knew quite how much a clutch could smoke. But it just barely got me home. And since a new clutch is around $80, I will pull the clutch out of the recently removed engine an tranny, swap it over, and continue to try to destroy the other engine by having more fun than should be allowed in a car.

The project car I have been working on, which most of you know about, is nearing completion. After spending a large sum of money on a new starter, fighting with grounding issues, and other electrical difficulties, I finely gave up and decided to start it the old fashioned way. So I convinced my dad to pull me around the shop too pull start it. It started right up with a quiet purr. So after flying around the shop a few times, drifting 1 1/2 times,(I lost it the second time and spun out right where my dad could see me, he thought it quite funny) I realized my front tire was falling off. Somewhere along the line I must have forgotten to tighten the lugnuts. No big deal, I tighten them and am off again. Confident I've worked the bugs out of the system I Head out to the field. I drive kinda slow until I get through the bumpy part, and as soon as I can I gun it, 25mph in 1st, 45mph in 2nd and 55 in 3rd(approximately) then I get to the end the field and after slowing down a little bit I decide to drift again. I was successful, but in the process the car dies. Like 1/4 mile from home. After a few anxious attempts to start it, it finally comes to life, and I go home, finish bolting the seat in, put the seat belts back in, and am looking forward to driving it again.

I have pictures of this as well as of the other car I bought the front half of too, but it will take me a while to get them on here.

2009 Chevorlet Camaro

It debuted in concept form at this year's Detroit auto show, but all indications point to a production version of the Camaro in the not-too-distant future. Various suppliers have already said that GM is expecting to put the car into production by 2009. The big question will be how close Chevrolet's designers and engineers can get the production car to the concept. Compared to the original '69 Camaro it was based on, the concept had very different proportions. Although both are the same length, the concept car sits on a 2-inch-longer wheelbase and measures over 5 inches wider. It's also slightly taller than a '69, despite its low roofline. No doubt some of that extra height comes from the 21-inch front wheels and tires and 22-inch rear meats. Assume that the production version will have more realistic wheels and tires along with dimensions that are less stretched out. The most likely holdovers from the concept are the 6.0-liter, 400-hp V8 and six-speed manual transmission, but even that could change in the next three years. Don't get me wrong, this dosn't mean I'm going to be a big fan of Domestics now, but I thought what they are trying to do is pretty cool. Even if it is a rip off of what Dodge did.

A REALLY big fish story

"biggest fish I ever landed was in 19 'n' 38. Remember it like it was yesterday," lied the old fisherman.
"Grasshoppers were as thick as hair on a hound dog's back. I was using a grasshopper for bait and to be perfectly honest I was taking a little snooze when all of the sudden my rod nearly jerked out of my hand. I grab it, rear back and set the hook. But my line busts. I lose the fish.
I take a spool of heavy line, string it to my reel, tie on a hook, slip a lively hopper into place and throw back out in the same spot. This time I'm not sleepy 'cause I figure I got a big fish in a hungry way.
Sure enough, he takes the bait. But also take my rigging and strips off every inch of line. I vow then to catch this monster. I run back to town, buy a hundred feet of one inch hemp rope and have a blacksmith fashion me a hook out of double ought-horse shoe.
When I get to my fishing hole I bait up with the biggest hopper I can find, throw in and tie off the end to the top of a fair sized tree. Just before dark I catch that fish. He fights terrible hard and since theirs nothing I can do I go home, come back the next morning and that tree is still whipping back and forth. It took two full days for that fish to tire. Then I hired a ream of stout horses to pull it up on the bank.
I can't rightly recite how big that fish was in yards and feet but to show you -- a logging outfit ended up suing me. They were having a log drive at the time and when I pulled that fish out they claimed it dropped the river so much there wasn't enough water to float their logs."
